Summary

Venue: MAMACHI RESTAURANT

Date: Wednesday, 20th November, 2023

Time: 7PM – 9PM

This year’s edition will be gathering Malta’s top finalists to battle it out in one evening at MAMACHI Restaurant [Level -5, Portomaso]. This includes also serving of canapes and capricci to the guests attending on the night.

The Finalists List shall be sent in due course.

Each finalist must mix one/1 cocktail in less than seven/7 minutes. And make another like it, ie two/2 cocktail mixes of the same drink. Mixologists can make the two cocktails simultaneously.

The name of the cocktails and the ingredients have to be supplied beforehand and must be sent to us by email two weeks before the event, or before.

Contestants in Malta’s Mixologist Cocktail Finals must submit an interpreted cocktail recipe based on an iconic classic cocktail mix.

This competition aims to bring together Malta’s, “most visionary mixologists to create, wow, and inspire” with the brand’s products.

The top bartenders or mixologists will be announced during the seated gala concert night, on Thursday 28th November 2023, including a 60-second video clip that will be filmed during the mixology contest by MEDIATRENDZ Ltd., and broadcast during the concert/awards evening.

The mixologists will be presenting the cocktails to the judges. Blind tasting samples are presented by category based on their style and origin. Each cocktail brand is reviewed based on mixability; balance and versatility; taste, mouthfeel, and finish. Judges review all blind-tasting samples, ensuring that every entrant receives unbiased consideration by top influencers within the industry.

COCKTAIL 1: DECORATION & GARNISH SCORE EVALUATION, FLAIRTENDING / BARTENDING & PACKAGING EVALUATION

The Decoration & Garnish score creates a strong reference tool for the bar industry and consumers. Following the tasting, judges are presented with the presentation of the cocktail to analyze the mixture and ingredients. The objective is to understand how a particular spirit is presented, including the glassware and cocktail assortments vis-à-vis its peers. In today’s competitive marketplace, relative value is a very important consideration.

In the final assessment for packaging, judges are asked to evaluate cocktails by their creative design, back-bar appeal, and functionality (including shape, size, weight, and ease of pouring).

JUDGING PANEL

The judging panel of the competition will consist entirely of top experts in the Malta bars and restaurants scene, including cocktail bars, pubs, and clubs.

The cocktail will be judged on three crucial elements: flavour, aesthetic, and story (presentation), with the winners and runners-up chosen by the judges chosen for this event. These are all food and beverage personalities and we are filming the finals so that we broadcast the footage on any future evening awards or events.

Judges

To be confirmed

Scores will be given on presentation, appearance, taste, aftertaste, execution of cocktail, ingredients, technique of mixologist, serving of the cocktail, quality of ingredients/mixers, and overall impression. Competitors and their cocktails should be judged on all aspects that ultimately contribute to the drinker’s experience, from the mixing of the cocktail to its final appearance and taste.

How Scoring works

  1. Mixability. How well the product is blended or combined for your cocktails.
  2. Balance and Versatility. Balance of the spirit refers to the flavour and aroma. …
  3. Taste, Mouthfeel, and Finish. Physical sensation drink creates in the mouth, including the tongue and the roof of the mouth. …
  4. Package/Presentation/Cocktail Menu
  5. Value.

Kindly advise us of the cocktail name/ingredients and confirm your attendance at MAMACHI Restaurant, Level -5, Portomaso at your earliest convenience.
